Who Represents Santa Clarita? The Complete 2026 Guide to SCV Elected Officials

Last_updated: 2026-10-14

Depending on where you live in the Santa Clarita Valley, you may be represented by a city councilmember, a county supervisor, multiple school board trustees, water district directors, state legislators, and members of Congress. Each level makes decisions that touch daily life here: housing, traffic, school funding, water rates, public safety, and taxes.

This is a nonpartisan directory of who currently represents SCV residents, what each office does, and where to find more information. It covers Santa Clarita, Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, and surrounding communities.

Election notice: The November 3, 2026 general election will reshape several of the offices below, including three Santa Clarita City Council district seats, school board seats, and SCV Water Agency division seats. This guide will be updated after certified results are released.

Not every official below represents every SCV address. Boundaries differ. Use the lookup tools in Section 10 to confirm your exact representatives.

The council is responsible for city zoning, local roads, parks, public safety contracts, economic development, and the municipal budget. Five elected members serve, and they appoint one of their own as mayor each December. The mayor presides over meetings but has the same vote as every other councilmember.

For current membership, boundaries, and meeting schedule, contact the council directly.

9. Understanding Political Affiliation

Partisan Offices

Federal and California legislative offices list party affiliation on the ballot. Examples:

  • U.S. President
  • U.S. Senators and Representatives
  • California Governor and statewide constitutional officers
  • California State Senators and Assemblymembers

Nonpartisan Offices

Many local offices are officially nonpartisan, meaning party affiliation does not appear on the ballot. Examples:

  • Santa Clarita City Council
  • Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
  • School district governing boards
  • College of the Canyons Board of Trustees
  • SCV Water Agency Board of Directors

An official in a nonpartisan position may still personally belong to a party or receive partisan endorsements. That party label just does not appear on the official ballot.

10. How to Find Your Exact Representatives

Boundaries overlap in the SCV. A Valencia resident may fall under the Santa Clarita City Council, Newhall School District, Hart District, SCV Water, and Los Angeles County, while a Stevenson Ranch resident has many of the same representatives but no city councilmember because Stevenson Ranch is outside city limits.

Use these tools to confirm your representation:

11. Why Knowing Your Representatives Matters

Most decisions that affect daily life in Santa Clarita happen locally.

  • Concerned about a housing development? Start with the City Council or your county supervisor, depending on whether the parcel is inside city limits.
  • Questions about school policy or facilities? Contact your school board trustee.
  • Rising water rates? SCV Water's elected board sets them.
  • An issue with a state law? Contact your assemblymember or state senator.
  • Problem with a federal agency like the IRS, Social Security, or VA? Your congressional representative's office provides constituent casework support.

Knowing which level of government is responsible is usually the first step toward getting an answer.

A Living Resource for the Santa Clarita Valley

The SCV is represented by dozens of elected officials across local, county, state, and federal government. Boundaries shift, elections bring new faces, and the directory needs regular maintenance to stay useful.

Our goal at GoSCV is to make that easier. This guide is intended as a practical, nonpartisan resource for Santa Clarita Valley residents who want to understand their government, contact their representatives, and stay informed.
